Make a GIF background transparent
Turn a white or black backdrop into transparent pixels. Open an animated GIF or a short video, check the detected color, and download a GIF without a watermark.

Try the white-background sample below. The converter detects the backdrop locally; the download is your processed result.
Try this sampleThe problem
A GIF can look transparent on a white page while still containing a solid white rectangle. Place it on a dark page and that rectangle becomes visible.
Black backgrounds cause the same problem when a sticker or product loop needs to sit on a different page color. Converting the file extension alone does not remove those pixels.
Removing one flat color also has a limit: a subject with the same color can disappear with its background. Review the preview before downloading.
The browser workflow
EasyLottie examines the edges of your clip to recognize a white, black, or other supported solid backdrop. This entry starts with removal enabled and GIF selected, with white and black presets first.
Adjust tolerance to control which colors disappear. Use softness and choke carefully around thin details, and reduce despill when it changes the subject. You can sample a different background color directly from the preview.
Files are processed in your browser. Inputs are limited to 100 MB, exports to 15 seconds and 450 frames; the converter may reduce resolution or frame rate to fit its memory budget. A supported extension still depends on your browser and source codec.
GIF uses 1-bit transparency: each pixel is fully transparent or opaque. Select an edge blend (matte) color for the page behind your GIF, or choose WebM or PNG frames when you need partial transparency.
Complete the task
Open your GIF or short video
Choose a GIF, MP4, MOV or WebM. Keep the file within 100 MB and select up to 15 seconds for export.
Check the detected backdrop
Review the automatic white or black selection. If the color is ambiguous, choose a preset or click the preview to sample the backdrop yourself.
Protect the subject
Start with low tolerance and raise it only until the background disappears. Reduce choke if thin details shrink; use less despill if pale parts change color.
Choose the edge blend and size
For GIF, choose a matte matching the destination page. Set a practical size and frame rate, then check both light and dark preview backgrounds.
Download the transparent result
Export GIF, or switch the output selector to WebM or PNG sequence for softer alpha edges. Successful exports can also be reopened in the local Workspace.
Common use cases
White-background stickers
Reuse a short character or illustration loop without its rectangular backdrop in documentation and chat.
Black-background product motion
Remove a flat black surround from a product loop before placing it on a different website background.
Assets for light and dark layouts
Inspect your GIF over contrasting page colors and choose an appropriate matte, or keep soft transparency with WebM or PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Can I remove a white or black background from an animated GIF?
Yes, when the backdrop is reasonably uniform. Upload the GIF, review the detected white or black color, adjust the preview, and export a new transparent GIF. All frames are processed locally.
What if white parts of my subject disappear too?
Lower tolerance first, reduce excessive despill, and move choke toward zero to preserve thin edges. If the subject and background have exactly the same color, this color-based tool cannot separate them; use a source with a contrasting backdrop or existing transparency.
Why do I still see a white or black fringe?
A GIF cannot retain partially transparent edge pixels. Its 1-bit transparency can reveal a fringe that was already blended into the source. Try the edge blend (matte) matching the page behind it and review the result at its final size. A single matte will not suit every background.
When should I export WebM or a PNG sequence instead?
Choose WebM for a compact animation with soft alpha when your target browser supports it. Choose PNG sequence for full alpha frames in an editor or compositing workflow. Check WebM transparency on the actual target browser; successful export alone does not guarantee playback compatibility.
Are my GIFs or videos uploaded?
Core conversion stays in this browser and needs no account. Optional cloud sync, sharing, or voluntary error-sample submission are separate actions you choose. Analytics record usage outcomes rather than file contents.
Does this remove a complex or multicolored background?
No. It removes a selected solid color, not an AI-segmented subject. Gradients, busy scenes, shadows and colors shared with the subject can leave unwanted pixels or remove details.
What are the size and duration limits?
The input limit is 100 MB. Select at most 15 seconds for an export, with up to 450 output frames. MP4 and MOV sources longer than 30 seconds must first be shortened. Resolution or frame rate may be adjusted automatically to keep processing within the browser budget.
